A group of young people from Ward 15 area in Lupane under Catch Them Young, are appealing for assistance to purchase stationery and sanitisers for them to resume helping local primary school kids with lessons.
“We had 16 students of primary school going age and, with the help of a local teacher named Zulu, we had to introduce staggered classes. We saw that kids were always playing outside and couldn’t afford radio or online lessons. We decided to help them, but we only managed to go on for a few weeks as we ran out of sanitisers and teaching equipment.We need assistance of radios now and bond papers to help kids with home delivered home works,” said Nyoni.
Nyoni also said that some locals had assisted them in the past to conduct the lessons.” Locals like Thembelihle Mhlanga and local organization, Rucet provided sanitizers and masks in the past, ” he said.
Catch Them Young is a sports academy that links players to big academies and also assists the young people in Lupane in any way they can.The organisation is run by five young people from Lupane namely Njabulo Sibanda,Lawrence Dube, BukhosiKhumalo ( currently studying in Russia) Nyoni Thando and Jabulani zulu (Shabulana Village)Thando Nyoni, a member of Catch Them Young, said they managed to help at least 16 primary school students during the COVID-19 induced lockdown with free school lessons.
