A Tsholotsho man was yesterday stabbed to death on his way home from a football tournament in Godweni area in Ward 10.
It is alleged that Blondie Sibanda of Vala line in Malilahunda village in Ward 11 had an altercation with Nkosana Moyo a young man from the same area.
Ward 11 Councillor Jonathan Ndlovu confirmed the incident saying both Moyo and Sibanda were drunk after consuming alcohol at the tournament.
Ndlovu said there was need to look into tournaments as they were now contributing to crime in the area.
“Apparently both Blondie and Nkosana were drunk after consuming alcohol and other drugs at the tournament which took place at Godweni line in Ward 10. I feel these tournaments are contributing to youth delinquency due to oversupply of drugs and alcohol. It is not known who organized this tournament but is believed that its one of the shop owners at Godweni,’” he said.
He urged business people to desist from taking advantage of young people for their own gains.“Shop owners take advantage of huge numbers of young people who come to watch the tournaments to sell alcohol and drugs. Business people must desist from that, we know that money is scarce but such marketing gimmicks are not good at all,” said Ndlovu.
Tsholotsho Rural District Council Chairperson Esau Siwela said the death of Sibanda was very unfortunate as he was just starting his career in Mechanical Engineering.
“Its very sad, such a young man full of potential just died. I understand he had just finished his Mechanical engineering programme at Bulawayo Polytechnic College. Youths need to exercise caution,” said siwela.
