Non governmental organizations in the environmental preservation sector have come together to resuscitate Bulawayo’s only nature reserve, Silwane Nature Reserve.
Speaking on behalf of the organisers of Green Family Hangout, the founder and director of Green Hut Initiative Ms Cinderella Ndlovu said they came together with other like minded organizations to organize a fundraising event for Silwane Nature Reserve.
Ndlovu also said that the event was meant to market the nature reserve.
“The event we are organising is called Green Family Hangout and it’s running under the theme ‘bringing families closer to nature’.
We want to be able to bring in as many people as possible to Silwane Nature Reserve so that they can experience the natural environment and also to support the nature reserve financially”, said Ndlovu.
She added, ” The people involved in organising this event belong to various organizations that are all concerned with environmental conservation namely; Green Hut Initiative, Rotaract Club of Matopos, Waste Money Private Limited, Bird Life Zimbabwe, Matabeleland Sustainability Group and Silwane Nature Reserve. We are hoping for immediate success and that more visitors would be drawn towards the nature reserve, thereafter. We are also looking forward to attracting experts and sponsors that would also get in on the act to assist with resuscitating the nature reserve”.
Ndlovu reiterated that the event is meant to cultivate the love for the natural environment and its inhabitants.
“Through this event we want to offer an intimate experience with the community of Bulawayo, where people will be able to enjoy game watching and take part in other fitness activities.” We are encouraging people to come and support the City’s only nature reserve so that it can be the best in the country. We want to be able to boast of such a place which is endowed with such biodiversity”, she said
